At just 16-years-old, the man known on Twitter as @Im_Not_Kobe was the youngest player in the FIBA 3x3 U18 World Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia but he showed maturity and hops beyond his years, flying over a motorcycle or stamping the big windmill with authority and mesmerising the female audience with some unexpected dancing skills en route to an uncontested win at the Honda Dunk contest final.

Kobe Paras Shines at 2014 Adidas Super64 Tourney

 

 

Before he returned home to the Philippines last August 1, Kobe Paras had one last hurrah, to place the finishing touches on what has become a memorable summer season for the rising Filipino swingman. Coming off remarkable campaigns in offseason leagues such as the DeMar DeRozan Tournament and the Pangos Stars of the Future, Paras further solidified his reputation as one of the HS players to watch out for in the class of 2016 with an impressive stint in the 2014 adidas Super64 tournament, which was held last July 23-27 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Playing for Team Bayless, which was mentored by NBA veteran guard Jerryd Bayless of the Milwaukee Bucks, Paras shined under the bright lights of Sin City, and even dropped a 29-point bomb in a 101-94 win versus Garner Road in Day 4, helping his team claim a Final Four finish in the annual summer showcase.

Paras’ athleticism and perimeter game has caught the attention of scouts and recruiters, who gushed at the 6’6” wing’s quickness and diverse skill set.

Paras is currently in town to train with the rest of the national team that is set to participate in the 2014 FIBA Asia U18 Championship in Doha, Qatar later this month. The team is looking to finish within the top three to be able to book a ticket to the FIBA Under-19 World Championship, which will be held in Greece next year.

Kobe Paras Receives Offer from US NCAA Division I school in 2016

Just a few months after arriving in the United States to pursue his budding basketball dream, former La Salle Greenhills star and current Cathedral High School student Kobe Paras has been offered a varsity scholarship by an NCAA Division I school. 16-year-old Kobe Paras is still two years away from entering the college basketball scene but has already received an offer from US NCAA Division I school UC Irvine, according to a report.

Although Paras has yet to play in a regular season high school game, since the opening of the new academic year in the US is still a few weeks away, the 6’6” son of PBA great Benjie Paras has made a good account of himself while suiting up for the Phantoms in several pocket tournaments during the course of the summer break.

This includes his stellar performance against Long Beach Polytechnic High during the recent DeMar DeRozan tournament, in which he displayed remarkable marksmanship from the perimeter en route to a 22-point outing, highlighted by three triples.

Given his promising game and tremendous potential, Kobe Paras has caught the eye of the University of California, Irvine (UC Irvine) Anteaters.

California-based recruiting analyst Neal Nieves posted on his Twitter account that the university had expressed interest in Paras, the son of PBA legend Benjie Paras. UC Irvine offered 2016 6-foot-6 Wing Kobe Paras out of Cathedral HS (CA) today according to a source.

Kobe Paras takes his Talent in LA High School Game

The 16-year-old son of two-time PBA Most Valuable Player Benjie impressed for LA Cathedral in a high school game against Long Beach Poly in the Dermar Rozen tournament on Thursday, scoring 22 points while hitting three crucial three-pointers. Although Paras fouled out with 48 seconds to go in a game LA Cathedral eventually lost, 50-57, he made quite an impression to merit a story from the Varsity Times issue of the Los Angeles Times titled, 'There's another player named Kobe ready to star in LA.'

Kobe starred for La Salle Greenhills in the NCAA and won the slam-dunk title when he played for the Philippines in last year's Fiba World 3x3 championship in Jakarta.
