The last U.S. heavyweight champion of the world Shannon Briggs (56-6-1, 49 KOs) destroyed veteran Cory Phelps (16-7-1, 8 KOs) in round one on Saturday night in Winston-Salem North Carolina. Briggs retained the WBA’s NABA heavyweight title and claimed the vacant WBC Latino heavyweight title.
