Boxing Superstar Floyd Mayweather Announcement: 5 Big Possibilities

Since Floyd Mayweather Jr revealed that he would have a huge announcement for May 2015, speculation has been running rampant on what it could possibly be. Here are some of the possibilities for Mayweather’s big announcement.

1. He will fight Manny Pacquiao- Since Mayweather returned in September of 2009 from his 21 month retirement, fans and media have wanted to see these two men fight each other. Although the fight will not be as big as it would have been years ago, it’s still the biggest and most lucrative fight that can be made in boxing. There have been discussions networks could charge $100 for this fight. Would a fight with Pacquiao end any question of who was the best boxer of their era?

2. He will fight Amir Khan at Wembley Stadium- Mayweather has always been intrigued with the possibility of fighting in England after witnessing the raucous energy by fans of the UK when they traveled to Las Vegas for his fight with Ricky Hatton in December of 2007. Khan is the biggest boxer from the UK and has fans across the world so a fight with Mayweather would easily sellout Wembley Stadium which has a capacity of at least 90,000.

This could be the richest live gate purse in the history of boxing. A fight with Mayweather and Khan has been discussed for years, and a fight at Wembley stadium would be the best place for this fight to occur.

3. He’s retiring and May 2015 will be his last fight- After his rematch with Marcos Maidana, Mayweather will have two fights remaining on his six fight deal with Showtime. But the announcement could be that he only plans to fight one more time and that will be on Cinco de Mayo weekend of 2015. Mayweather is still the best pound-for-pound fighter in the sport but he’ll turn 38 in February which is old for a weltwerweight and eventually Father Time catches up with everyone.

Some feel that his legs are already showing signs of aging.

4. He plans on fighting past his six fight deal with Showtime – Should Mayweather remain undefeated throughout the duration of his six fight deal with Showtime, his professional record would be 49-0 tying the mark of Rocky Marciano. So if he decides to fight at least one more time to be 50-0 it could put Showtime in a bidding war with HBO on which network would broadcast the fight, where he may look to make a guaranteed $50 million dollars before the revenue from PPV numbers.

5. He’s going to form his own cable network- This might be farfetched, but Mayweather who has become a reality TV superstar both on HBO’s 24/7 and ShowTime’s All Access could decide that his brand is so big that he could start his own network. This idea would be similar to what WWE with its own network, and could consist of past Mayweather fights, fights of current fighters under Mayweather Promotions, along with past and current reality TV shows and behind the scenes footage.

Again, this possibility is farfetched considering how unsuccessful WWE has been with its network, but Mayweather and his team may just be bold enough to attempt this.

Floyd Mayweather's big announcement... What will it be?

UFC Update: Where is GSP Now?

The mystery of Georges St-Pierre's possible return to UFC is now put to rest ... for at least 14 months.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White was adamant that his former Welterweight champion -- and international mixed martial arts (MMA) superstar -- Georges St-Pierre, would return to the Octagon sooner rather than later.

"Rush," however, responded that he would not comeback until UFC fixes its drug testing "problem."

Now, it seems, combat sports fans can stop reading between the tea leaves, with "terrible" news that the French-Canadian tore the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee while training. That's the opposite leg that required surgery to repair the same injury back in 2011, which sidelined St-Pierre for more than one year.

White shared his thoughts about St-Pierre's latest setback with Los Angeles Times earlier this afternoon:

"I didn't think his hiatus was going to be that long. That's one of the risks you run when you get away from the sport like that. You have a small window as a professional athlete to make what you can. The guy gave up his belt, walked away from the sport, and now he's out for who knows how long ... last time he had this injury, it was 14 months."

St. Pierre blew out the ACL in his right knee back in fall 2011 in preparation for a fight against Nick Diaz at UFC 143. The operation was deemed a "huge success," with St-Pierre returning to topple Carlos Condit via decision at UFC 154 in Nov. 2012 to unify his world title.

Shortly thereafter, St-Pierre settled his score with Diaz at UFC 158 in March 2013, winning a unanimous decision, and then barely retained his title against Johny Hendricks eight months later at UFC 167, at which time he announced that he was "stepping away" from the sport for an undetermined amount of time.

Now, it seems, St-Pierre and UFC are looking at a 14-month minimum sit, which would make him about 34 years old ... and certainly way beyond his MMA prime.

In the meantime, "Bigg Rigg" will have to just keep on truckin' ... for better or worse.

UFC's Jon Jones Responds to Chris Weidman's 'Awesome' Request for Championship Super Fight: Absolutely!

Be careful what you wish for.
What a difference a couple of months (and one big win) can make.
Not that long ago, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight titleholder Jon Jones said there wasn't anything super about a fight against Chris Weidman, because the promotion's middleweight champion didn't have a big enough name.

Then came a "Dragon" slaying over Fourth of July Weekend and suddenly "Bones" (via Sherdog) is all over it.

"Oh, man, I think that would be awesome. I would absolutely jump at the opportunity to have a super fight with Chris Weidman. I respect him a lot as a person and as a champion, and I think that that fight would make great sales -- absolutely."

Sorry, Johnny.

While he's no stranger to fighting middleweights, any talk of crossing over will have to wait. Jones still has to get through Daniel Cormier at UFC 178 and even if he does, Alexander Gustafsson will be waiting in the wings. Weidman, meanwhile, has his own obstacle ahead of him in the form of Vitor Belfort at UFC 181.

And "super fights" -- historically -- typically fail to materialize.

Danny garcia, Lamont Peterson and Daniel Jacobs Victorious on Showtime!

In the scheduled 10-round main event, WBC/WBA junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia, Philadelphia, stopped Rod Salka, Pittsburgh, in round two, after three brutal knockdowns. The fight was a non-title bout. The first knockdown came from a hard right hand. Another right put Salka on the deck for the second time. Finally, a left hook dropped Salka again. Referee Steve Willis stopped the fight at 2:31 of round two. Garcia remained undefeated, 29-0, 17 KOs. Salka lost for the fourth time, 19-4, 3 KOs. On a potential matchup with Lamont Peterson..."I leave it up to Al Haymon, but if he [Peterson] wants it. I'll give it to him. I show up fight night and sometimes I have good nights or bad nights, but I always find a way to win.

Lamont Peterson, Washington, DC, defended his IBF junior welterweight title with a 10th round TKO of Edgar Santana, New York. Peterson, 33-2-1, 16 KOs, scored well with a blistering body attack throughout the fight and landed chopping power shots all night long. Peterson only used his feet to reposition himself and to take an occasional breather. The rest of the time, he stayed in the pocket and chopped away at his rugged foe. Santana, 29-5, 20 KOs, landed as well, but Peterson outworked him in every round. There were no knockdowns in the fight, but the fifth round could have been scored 10-8, given the amount of punishment Peterson dished out. Finally in round ten, with Peterson landing freely to the head and body, the ringside physician signaled that he wanted the fight to be stopped. So referee Pete Santiago halted it at 2:48 of the tenth.

It was bombs away in the first round of the Daniel Jacobs-Jarrod Fletcher vacant WBA middleweight championship fight. Jacobs, Brooklyn, came out fast and dropped Fletcher with a nasty left hook in round one. After that, it seemed that every punch Jacobs threw hurt the Australian, but somehow he made it to the end of the round. In round two, Jacobs appeared to ease off for some reason, instead of going for the knockout. “When I hurt him in the first round and he didn’t go out, I wanted to pace myself and not get tired,” Jacobs said. Jacobs kept the upper hand as the rounds ticked by, but didn’t come close to putting his opponent down again. However, in round five, just when Fletcher appeared to be getting brave, Jacobs refocused and went for the kill. A hard left hook softened Fletcher before a pair of rights put him down again. Referee Michael Griffin stepped in and stopped the fight at 2:58 of round five. Jacobs improved to 28-1, 25 KOs. Fletcher fell to 18-2, 10 KOs.

Ray Allen Will Play This Season; Possible in Cleveland Cavs

The Cleveland Cavaliers’ dream offseason just continues getting better. According to ESPN’s Chris Broussard, free agent marksman Ray Allen has decided to play in 2014-2015, and the Cavs are frontrunners for his services. A shooter and leader of Allen’s caliber could help any team in the league, and his rapport with James ensures he’ll be a seamless fit with the Cavaliers.

Allen figures to settle in the Cavs’ rotation between fellow LeBron recruits Mike Miller and James Jones, and coach David Blatt would likely have his pick of Miller and Allen depending on defensive match-ups and which sharpshooter has the hotter hand. But signing Allen wouldn’t significantly move this team’s needle.

(Reuters) - Sacramento Kings forward Rudy Gay has been added to the roster of players vying for a spot on the injury-hit Team USA roster for this month's Basketball World Cup in Spain. The decision to add Gay, announced on Friday in a statement by USA Basketball, comes a day after NBA most valuable player Kevin Durant withdrew from the team citing mental and physical exhaustion.

Gay averaged 20 points, 6 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 73 games during the 2013-14 NBA season which he spent with Toronto and Sacramento. He was also on the U.S. team that captured the gold medal at the 2010 World Championships. The United States opens play in the World Cup on Aug. 30 against Finland.
