Saul Canelo wins by closed split decision over Erislandy Lara

Saul Alvarez W SD12 Erislandy Lara: Mexican superstar Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez scored a split decision victory over Cuban slickster Erislandy Lara moments ago at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas as seen live on SHOWTIME. It was a close fight that had the brodcast team and many fans divided. Lara boxed well early but Canelo went to the body with frequency. There were many close rounds in the bout as the two contrasting styles of boxer/mover vs. pressure fighter made it difficult to find a decided edge. Canelo did close the distance late and applied the pressure but there was a lot of uncertainty when the final bell rang. After twelve rounds were in the books the scores were read as 115-113 for Lara and 115-113 and 117-111 for Canelo. The latter card seemed very suspect. Read on for more including undercard results.
