PeƱalosa Brothers Keep Winning Streak After KO Wins

Brothers Dodie Boy Jr. and Dave PeƱalosa both impressed and maintained their undefeated records in front of a packed crowd at Mandaluyong City Gym on Saturday.

Dodie Boy Jr. (13-0, 12KOs) started the fight against Indonesia's Dicky Amtiran with agile lateral movements and reaching jabs to the body. His ring generalship allowed him to catch Amtiran by surprise, dropping the visiting opponent in the last 30 seconds of the first round.

Despite hurting Amtiran, Dodie Boy Jr. exercised patience with calculated attacks in round two. The southpaw Dodie Boy Jr. started throwing hard right hooks to the body which were visibly felt by Amtiran.

Dodie Boy Jr. cleanly landed repeated left straights and right hooks both to the top and body in round three. It was getting obvious at this point that Amtiran doesn't stand much of a chance, Dodie Boy Jr. gladly ended the Indonesian's misery with a right hook to the liver that sent him kneeling to the canvass.

Amtiran would not get up from that body shot, earning Dodie Boy Jr. his 12th knockout in 13 professional fights. The official time was 1:14.

Dave PeƱalosa (9-0, 6KOs) won his first eight-round bout by knockout against Danilo Gabisay but not without a trip to the canvass for the first time in his promising career.

Dave cautiously gauged his opponent with jabs and movement in round one. As soon as Danilo started letting his hands go, he got caught by a patented PeƱalosa right hook counter followed by a left uppercut.

Dave started working the body in round two. Hard hooks from both hands to the mid section made Gabisay look helpless at one point as he asked the referee to call for a low blow when there was none. Gabisay landed a couple of right hands but not without getting countered with right hooks from Dave.

Dave was working the body and even stunned Gabisay with a right hook on top in round three. A brutal exchange in the center of the ring saw Dave getting dropped by a clean straight right.

Gabisay soon found out that Dave meant business in round 4. A hard left straight from Dave sent Gabisay sitting on the ropes and got called for a knockdown. Smelling blood, Dave continued his attack and managed to drop Gabisay again, this time with a right hook in the last 10 seconds of the round.

Gabisay never seemed to have recovered from the last round. Dave's well timed left straight to the stomach reduced Gabisay to a knee and was counted out. The official time was 1:23 of round five.

Paul Millsap Added to USA Men's National Team Roster

Forward Paul Millsap has been added to the 2014-16 USA Men's National Team roster, it was announced today by USA Basketball National Team Managing Director Jerry Colangelo. He joins Hawks teammate Kyle Korver on the men's national team, making the Hawks just one of three teams (Golden State and Washington) with more than one player on the current national team roster. In his first season with Atlanta during the 2013-14 season, Millsap had a career best season, being selected to the Eastern Conference All-Star Team and posting highs in scoring (17.9), assists (3.1), total steals (129), three-point field goals made (76) and percentage (.358) and double-doubles (30). He also recorded his first career triple-double with 19 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists against Toronto on March 18th. He was the only player in the NBA during the 2013-14 season to average at least 17.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.0 steal and 1.0 block.

In the Hawks' first round series against the Indiana Pacers, Millsap pushed his averages to 19.4 points, 10.9 rebounds and 1.9 blocks in 38.1 minutes per game. The 6-foot-8 forward from Louisiana Tech signed with the Atlanta Hawks on July 10, 2013 following seven seasons with the Utah Jazz. Over his eight-year career, he has averages of 13.1 points on .507 shooting and 7.2 rebounds in 28.2 minutes in 614 games.

The U.S. team begins its preparation for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup tomorrow in Las Vegas. Millsap previously was a member of the USA Men's National Team roster for the 2009 mini-camp, and he played in the 2009 USA Basketball Showcase in Las Vegas.

Gennady Golovkin demolishes Daniel Geale in just 3 Rounds

WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (30-0, 27 KOs) scored a third round demolition of former world champion Daniel Geale (30-3, 16 KOs) Saturday night before 8,572 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Golovkin dropped Geale in round two with a barrage of punches. The end came in round three when Golovkin dropped Geale again with a huge right hand. Time was 2:47. Making the win all the more impressive is Geale had connected with a hard punch just a fraction of a second before Golovkin’s punch landed and Golovkin’s blow still carried KO power.

In the post fight interview, Golovkin stated that he was ready for anyone in the division, but made special note of one fighter. When asked who he wanted next, he made his choice clear, as he called out reigning Middleweight champion of the world, Miguel Cotto. Golovkin vs. Cotto would certainly be a PPV attraction, pitting the two best middleweights against each other to end any doubt as to who is the best in the weight class. With Cotto having beaten Sergio Martinez so easily in his last bout, this fight would be very intriguing to see, but with Golovkin looking so devastating with his power, you have to wonder if Cotto will take the risk. Gennady Golovkin again showed why he is one of the most avoided fighters in the sport, but with his star continuing to rise, they might not be able to avoid him much longer. Watch the highlights between Golovkin versus Geale.

Kevin Love withdraws from Team USA Basketball

Barely 24 hours after losing Blake Griffin comes news that USA Basketball will be playing in the FIBA World Cup without Kevin Love, too. Kevin Love will not play for Team USA this summer, USA Basketball national team managing director Jerry Colangelo announced in a statement. Kevin Love still doesn't know where he will play next season, his NBA future hanging in the air while a seldom-used league rule complicates a potential trade to Cleveland. Anthony Davis, DeMarcus Cousins, Andre Drummond, and Kenneth Faried are the only remaining, true frontcourt candidates for Team USA. Griffin and Love withdrew from consideration after LaMarcus Aldridge did the same almost two weeks ago – all three players were considered locks to make the FIBA World Cup Team.

Kobe Paras Receives Offer from US NCAA Division I school in 2016

Just a few months after arriving in the United States to pursue his budding basketball dream, former La Salle Greenhills star and current Cathedral High School student Kobe Paras has been offered a varsity scholarship by an NCAA Division I school. 16-year-old Kobe Paras is still two years away from entering the college basketball scene but has already received an offer from US NCAA Division I school UC Irvine, according to a report.

Although Paras has yet to play in a regular season high school game, since the opening of the new academic year in the US is still a few weeks away, the 6’6” son of PBA great Benjie Paras has made a good account of himself while suiting up for the Phantoms in several pocket tournaments during the course of the summer break.

This includes his stellar performance against Long Beach Polytechnic High during the recent DeMar DeRozan tournament, in which he displayed remarkable marksmanship from the perimeter en route to a 22-point outing, highlighted by three triples.

Given his promising game and tremendous potential, Kobe Paras has caught the eye of the University of California, Irvine (UC Irvine) Anteaters.

California-based recruiting analyst Neal Nieves posted on his Twitter account that the university had expressed interest in Paras, the son of PBA legend Benjie Paras. UC Irvine offered 2016 6-foot-6 Wing Kobe Paras out of Cathedral HS (CA) today according to a source.

Kobe Paras takes his Talent in LA High School Game

The 16-year-old son of two-time PBA Most Valuable Player Benjie impressed for LA Cathedral in a high school game against Long Beach Poly in the Dermar Rozen tournament on Thursday, scoring 22 points while hitting three crucial three-pointers. Although Paras fouled out with 48 seconds to go in a game LA Cathedral eventually lost, 50-57, he made quite an impression to merit a story from the Varsity Times issue of the Los Angeles Times titled, 'There's another player named Kobe ready to star in LA.'

Kobe starred for La Salle Greenhills in the NCAA and won the slam-dunk title when he played for the Philippines in last year's Fiba World 3x3 championship in Jakarta.
